Special representatives from the Group of Seven (G7) countries convened in London on Tuesday to discuss Afghanistan. The meeting included special envoys from Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Great Britain, and the United States.
The one-day session was also attended by the United Nations Secretary-Generals Representative for Afghanistan, the Special Coordinator for assessing the situation in Afghanistan, and representatives from key international institutions, including the World Bank.
While the joint statement from the meeting has yet to be released, the gathering in London precedes the upcoming Moscow format meeting scheduled for next week, and the Doha meeting.
All special representatives for Afghanistan are expected to attend the Doha meeting, hosted by the United Nations Secretary-General, where they will deliberate and vote on issues concerning Afghanistan.
The Doha meeting, under the auspices of the United Nations, is slated to take place in mid-February.
